In the past, I’ve briefly touched on how to find work from home jobs, but haven’t gone into step-by-step detail for you. I’ve mentioned several good job search sites you can utilize as well as some websites you can visit to get job leads for home-based work.
But, there’s more to just knowing where to search. You need to know how to search the major job boards, too.
Once you are on a job search site, you’ll need to put in some smart search terms to narrow things down to the home-based jobs. You can get super creative with this and even narrow it down to specific types of home-based jobs!
My three favorite searchable job boards are FlexJobs, LinkedIn, and Indeed.
Search Terms To Try
Obviously, “work from home” is a great search term to use, but it’s not the only one. Not every company uses that exact phrase to describe their home-based jobs! Here is a big list of many search terms you should use to ensure you find as many work from home jobs as possible. And remember, type these all inside of quotations!
- “work from home”
- “work at home”
- “work remotely”
- “home-based”
- “home based”
- “virtual”
- “remote”
- “remote location”
- “telecommuting”
- “telecommute”
- “work from anywhere”
- “location: anywhere” (good to use on Adhuntr since they have a specific location field)
- “location: remote”
- “freelance” – (not all freelance jobs are work from home, but many are so it’s worth checking)
- “work from home” + “freelance”
- “virtual office”
- “this is a remote position”
- “working remotely from home”
- “working from home”
- “working at home”
- “work offsite”
- “offsite position”
- “work may be done from home”
- “work can be done from home”
These terms should get you off to a good start. Obviously you may not have time to go through each term (I know I don’t). But just experiment with the terms and see which ones tend to give you the best results and you’ll find you have some favorite, go-to search terms.
Finding Remote Jobs Using LinkedIn
LinkedIn isn’t just for corporate types or people in fancy offices. It’s also one of the best places to spot remote jobs.
Start by creating a profile (or updating the one you have). Make sure you add “Open to Work” and include “remote” in the types of jobs you’re looking for.
When you search, use the “Jobs” tab and type in keywords like “remote” or “work from home” or any of the options I shared above!
You can even set up alerts so LinkedIn emails you new listings. And don’t forget to connect with people who already work remotely — sometimes, they share openings before they’re posted publicly.
Finding Remote Jobs Using FlexJobs
FlexJobs is one of the best-known websites for scam-free remote jobs. Every listing is hand-screened by the FlexJobs team, so you can search confidently, knowing the jobs are real.
Once you sign up, you can search by job title, category, or even filter by things like part-time, freelance, or full-time roles.
You can also set up alerts to get notified when new jobs match what you’re looking for.

Finding Remote Jobs Using Indeed
Indeed is another huge job board where tons of companies post remote openings. On the homepage, type the kind of job you want in the “What” box or use any of the keywords I shared, and put “remote” in the “Where” box.
For example, you could search “customer service” and “remote” to see current listings. Make sure you also check the company reviews on Indeed to get a sense of how they treat their employees.

Scam Avoidance Tips
Sadly, not every work at home opportunity is the real deal.
Watch out for common scams like envelope stuffing, home assembly kits, or any job that promises huge pay for little effort.
A good rule of thumb is never pay to get a job, unless it’s for something like a background check, which some legit companies do require.
