Are you a licensed therapist looking to work from home? Luckily, thanks to the boom of telehealth in recent years, there are plenty of opportunities available.
Many people who struggle with day-to-day life or suffer from mental health issues want therapy but are unable — or lack the desire to — leave home to get it.
Thanks to telehealth jobs, I’ve been seeing many remote job openings for therapists, counselors, and more from companies that provide online platforms for these types of services.
So if you have the required education, experience, and licensing to do mental health work, and you really want a job where you help people, keep reading to see what’s open now. It’s worth mentioning in advance I’m noticing most of these are independent contractor roles.
8 Work at Home Jobs in the Mental Health Industry
BetterHelp
BetterHelp is always looking to add social workers, marriage & family therapists, mental health counselors, professional counselors, and psychologists to their roster. You must be located in the US to qualify.
With BetterHelp, you are free to work full- or part-time hours. They take care of client referrals and billing details.
Per the BetterHelp website, you must be licensed by a State Board to provide therapy (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, PsyD, or similar credentials). Unfortunately, if you are an intern or require supervision to provide therapy services, you cannot be a provider at BetterHelp at this time.
Also, they are unable to accept school therapists, registered nurses, career therapists, and business/life coaches (unless they have an additional license as a mental health therapist).

Thriveworks
Thriveworks hires licensed therapists, counselors, and psychologists across the U.S. They provide both in-person and fully remote therapy services, with many opportunities for telehealth-only positions.
If you work for Thriveworks, you’ll be a W-2 employee rather than an independent contractor. This means you can expect a regular schedule, administrative support, and benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and professional development opportunities.
They handle billing, insurance credentialing, and client referrals so you can focus on providing care. Thriveworks requires a master’s degree or higher in a mental health-related field and an active clinical license (such as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or Psychologist).

SonderMind
SonderMind connects licensed therapists with clients through its online platform and manages the administrative side of private practice. They provide credentialing with insurance panels, handle billing, and match you with clients so you can focus on therapy rather than paperwork.
Therapists can choose to work fully remote through telehealth or in-person if preferred. You’ll set your own schedule and have flexibility in the number of clients you take on. Positions are open to licensed professionals such as LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, and psychologists.
Because SonderMind works with insurance, you must be licensed in the state where your clients are located. Compensation is based on session rates and varies by state and insurance provider, but they pay quickly—often within days of the session.

Looking For Even More Legit Remote Jobs?
FlexJobs is one of my favorite sites to use for finding remote jobs and learning about new companies that hire remotely.
Most of what I see there when I check the listings pays well above minimum wage and are known companies.
The great thing about FlexJobs is that they guarantee ALL listings are scam-free. They list hundreds of jobs — all of which are either remote or flexible in nature — five days per week.
There are also no ads on the site!
Because there are no ads, they do charge a membership fee since that is the only way they can see a return on their job-searching efforts.
But it’s cheap — you can get access for a few weeks for just $2.95 for 14 full days!
If you sign up and don’t like it, it’s very easy to cancel right away so you are not billed again. You can do it any point during your 14 days of checking things out.
