If you’re looking for a place to stay in Cancun that’s cheap, clean and comfortable for a night or two, let me tell you about Adhara Hacienda Cancun.
Normally, we’d go all out and stay at Secrets The Vine or another all-inclusive resort in the hotel zone to soak up all the luxury it has to offer.
But since our WestJet flight arrived in the evening and we needed to head to Playa del Carmen the next day, we figured it wouldn’t make much sense to splurge on a resort we wouldn’t have time to enjoy fully.
So, here’s an honest review of this affordable hotel in Cancun. We’ve included original photos so you can decided if its a good fit for you!
Quick Overview
Adhara Hacienda Cancun is a 189 room, 3-star hotel, located in downtown Cancun, Mexico.
It’s designed in 19th-century hacienda style with indoor and outdoor courtyards and features a restaurant, bar, gift shop, swimming pool with swim-up bar.
Located near shopping, financial offices, restaurants and markets, it appeals to both business and leisure travellers offering clean, well-equipped rooms, free breakfast and a complimentary beach shuttle.
Advantages
- For a budget-friendly hotel in Cancún, Adhara Hacienda offers great value. We paid $91 USD (including taxes) for two people for one night including breakfast. We booked Hotel Adhara Hacienda Cancun via Booking.com and paid at the hotel in MXN pesos.
- Adhara Hacienda Cancún is located in the heart of Cancun’s El Centro, providing quick access to local attractions like Parque de las Palapas and Mercado 23.
- While not on the beach, there’s a complimentary shuttle to Playa Forum.
- It’s around 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport.
- The hotel’s swimming pool is spacious and has a swim-up bar, loungers and sun umbrellas.
- The colonial design and welcoming staff make Adhara Hacienda feel like a local experience rather than a commercial chain hotel.
- Handy amenities such as a bathtub, balcony, mini-fridge and coffee pod machine.
Good to Know
- Since Adhara Hacienda isn’t a resort, there are limited on-site entertainment options in the evening. If you’re looking for nightlife, you’ll need to explore El Centro or the Hotel Zone, both of which have plenty to offer.
- While the complimentary shuttle to Playa Forum is a wonderful perk, it’s important to note that Adhara Hacienda Cancún is not located on the beach. For a beachfront stay, you’ll need to look into accommodations in the Hotel Zone, though that will be at a higher price tag.
- While rooms are clean and comfortable, don’t expect luxury touches. Decor in the rooms is relatively simple and geared more toward comfort than style. However, for the price point, this doesn’t detract significantly from the experience.
- It’s aimed to appeal to business and leisure travellers. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, check out our list of the best resorts for couples in Cancun and Riviera Maya.
🌟 Pro Tip: Be sure to book Adhara Hacienda Cancún not Adhara Express. They’re two different hotels!
Location
While we originally considered staying at a Cancun airport hotel, we ultimately decided to stay close to everything happening in the heart of the city.
Adhara Hacienda Cancun, located at Av Carlos Nader (Google Map) worked out well. It’s near some good local restaurants and walking distance to the lively Parque de las Palapas.
It was a 5 minute walk to Mercado 23 which meant easy access to some amazing Día de los Muertos festivities and street food. For souvenir shopping, Mercado 28 was also within walking distance, just a bit further out.
The hotel’s central location in downtown Cancun brings convenience but also a bit of hustle and bustle. While it’s perfect for diving into local life, you’ll be surrounded by city buzz.
If you’re a light sleeper, do as we did and request a quiet room overlooking the courtyard.
Getting There
Upon arrival we booked a private airport transfer via AMStar in advance for $46 USD from the airport to the hotel.
A shared shuttle (or ADO bus) would have been cheaper but we didn’t want to waste time dropping off other passengers. A taxi would have cost around $100 USD.
Room Amenities
Adhara Hacienda’s rooms are thoughtfully designed to provide everything you need for a comfortable stay. Each room is air-conditioned and ours had a mini fridge… perfect for keeping snacks and drinks cold.
The bathroom amenities were a pleasant surprise, stocked with bathrobes, body cream, shampoo and conditioner.
For travellers who need a workspace, there’s a desk in each room, along with a TV (we didn’t have time to watch it so can’t comment on the channels).
My husband and I especially enjoyed the private balcony, as it’s always nice to be able to step outside.
I’d requested a “quiet room” and our room on the 4th floor was located in a “Silence Please” zone that stated it was designated for Airline Crew. That worked our perfectly for us!
Dining and Restaurants
One of the best perks at Adhara Hacienda is the complimentary breakfast included with your stay.
It’s a full breakfast, buffet-style, with options for everyone, whether you’re looking to start light or go for a heartier meal.
Fresh fruit and yoguert, pastries, Mexican specialties such as chilaquiles and eggs made to order, and hot coffee (tea, espresso and cappuccino) are all on offer, providing a delicious way to fuel up for the day.
Given it’s a budget-friendly hotel, Adhara Hacienda has managed to make breakfast feel like a treat, rather than just a quick meal of pastries and juice.

If you’re looking for something to eat at other times of the day, the onsite Adhara Grill restaurant serves lunch and dinner with Mexican specialties, burgers, pizza and pasta.
🍽️ Pro Tip: Salus Y Chemos restaurant is a 5-minute walk away (Google Map). This family-run pozoleria is popular for its Mexican dishes especially green, red and blanco pozoles.
Beach Shuttle
Every morning at 10:00 am, the hotel provides a free shuttle to Playa Forum, returning at 4:00 pm.
Located in the heart of the Hotel Zone, Playa Forum is one of Cancun’s most popular beaches, known for its white sand, crystal-clear water (when it’s not seaweed season) and easy access to popular restaurants such as Hard Rock Cafe, Mandala Beach Club and others.
This perk is ideal for travelers who want to enjoy the beach without the extra cost or hassle of arranging their own transport. Lockers and showers are available for a fee.
Final Thoughts
In summary, Adhara Hacienda Cancun is a fantastic choice for travellers seeking a clean, safe, cheap hotel in downtown Cancun for a night or two.
It offers convenience, a range of amenities, great service and chance to experience El Centro’s action at a budget-friendly price.
