A Day Pass to Secrets Huatulco Resort and Spa offers unlimited luxury such as all-inclusive cocktails, gourmet cuisine and sparkling swimming pools, without booking an overnight guest room.

Between living in Oaxaca and writing for Fodor’s guidebook and Lonely Planet’s Mexico from the Source, I’ve spent a lot of time at Secrets in Huatulco over the past 20 years. It’s one of my favourite hotels on Mexico’s Pacific Coast.

If you’re on a cruise excursion, a romantic getaway or a long layover, a Resort Day Pass for breakfast and  lunch, dinner or the full day may be just what you’re looking for. It’s the only adults-only day pass in Huatulco.

Here’s what you need to know about getting a day pass to Secrets Huatulco Resort and Spa on Conejos Bay in the Bahias de Huatulco in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Location and How to Get to Secrets Huatulco

If you’re coming from Puerto Escondido you’ll arrive at the Huatulco Bus Station located in La Crucecita. It’s a 10 minute taxi ride to Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa.

If you’re on a cruise, you’ll arrive at the Santa Cruz pier terminal. The Bahías de Huatulco taxis operate on  fixed rate fares.

Effective March 2024, the fare from Santa Cruz to Bahía Conejos (the bay where Secrets Huatulco is located) is 85 MXN pesos (around $5 USD). It will take you 10 minutes by taxi to get Santa Cruz to the resort.

You can also take a public bus. Secrets is located at the end of hotel zone at 8 Boulevard Benito Juarez (Google Map).

It’s situated in the middle of pretty Conejos Bay, one of the best beaches in Huatulco.

Be sure you don’t go to Residentiales Conejos as that’s a residential development. Secrets Huatulco is past that turn off.

Although a Nickelodeon resort and waterpark are planned for the property next to Secrets Huatulco it hasn’t yet been built.

What’s Included in Secrets Huatulco Day Pass

Secrets Huatulco Resort & Spa has eight bars, including a swim-up bar, the Skybar, a beachfront bar and grill, a lobby lounge with live music nightly.

There are nine gourmet restaurants, offering seafood, upscale Mexican, Pan-Asian, Italian and more.

If you visit Secrets Huatulco to enjoy your day pass, you definitely need to made a stop at the stunning Sky Bar.

While the 360 degree views from this centrally-located bar are fantastic at any time of the day, it’s especially memorable at sunset when the setting sun casts a warm glow on the stone and the flickering flames of the fire pits make it ultra romantic.

You can often see herons diving for fish and humpback whales migrating in the Pacific waters right offshore.

And you’re just minutes to La Bocana Beach, a windswept, still-wild beach that’s a perfect place to experience a sunset in Huatulco.

Food at Secrets Huatulco

Another advantage of a Day Pass at Secrets Huatulco (and all Secrets Resorts) is that no reservations are needed for any of the restaurants.

So whether you opt for the buffet, a seaside grill or a la carte dining you just appear at the check-in desk at the restaurant of your choice and the host or hostess will  seat you.

In very rare circumstances there may be a wait.

My personal choices for the best dining at Secrets Huatulco include  Castaways (swoon-worthy views plus steak and seafood) as well as Tamarindo (authentic Mexican cuisine) where I enjoyed the best birria (a beef stew redolent with spices and served with steaming corn tortillas) I’ve had since I was in Tepic, Nayarit.

Secrets also serves a wide variety of regional dishes so you’ll also have the opportunity to sample traditional Oaxacan food and drink.  Be sure to try one of the mezcal cocktails!

If you’re planning to dine at one of the a la carte restaurants such as Bordeaux (French), CinCin (Italian), Tamarindo (Mexican) , Spice (Pan-Asian)  note that there is a Formal or Casual Elegance dress code.

At Secrets Huatulco, a Formal or Casual Elegance dress code means:

Men: Long pants, collared shirts and closed shoes.

Women: Blouses, slacks, skirts of dresses. Dress shoes.

Bonus: Guests are not required to wear an all-inclusive wrist band at any Secrets, Dreams or other AMResort

Things to Do at Secrets Huatulco

A Secrets Resort Day Pass also gives you access to activities including non-motorized water sports. So you can kayak the calm waters of Conejos Bay, go paddle boarding or participate in water aerobics or other classes.

Two tennis courts, a fitness centre as well as a new jungle boardwalk for birdwatching round out the offerings.

However, Bahia Conejos is not an ideal bay for snorkeling.

So if you’re hoping to experience the incredible underwater marine environment in the Bahias de Huatulco area, your best bet is to take a snorkeling tour to La Entrega, Maguey or San Agustín beaches.

Check out our Guide to Snorkeling in Huatulco for tips on choosing the best tour and tips on snorkeling from shore.

You can even enjoy the beautiful Sky Bar at Secrets Huatulco on a Day Pass

Secrets was once the closest resort to La Copalita Archeological Site, one of the top attractions in Huatulco.

However, in recent years several hotels have been built at La Bocana Beach so there are other options for accommodation if you’re interested in staying near the Copalita River estuary.
